Nevomo engage PJ Motion and TÜV Rheinland to homologate and assess MagRail Booster
The Polish company starts a strategic cooperation with PJ Motion and TÜV Rheinland for the approval and evaluation of MagRail Booster, the world’s first retrofit solution for autonomous traction of rail vehicles
Nevomo, a leading European deep-tech company and the developer of the innovative MagRail technology, announces the rail industry’s much-anticipated transition from research, testing and development to the realm of product homologation and commercialization.
The strategic collaboration agreement concluded with TÜV Rheinland, an independent assessment provider and PJ Motion, a specialist for authorization management of track-bound vehicles, opens the door for the delivery to first-time customers of the pioneering MagRail Booster solution, developed to enhance existing rail services, enabling traffic automation and infrastructure electrification with greater flexibility, higher frequency of operations, greater capacity and increased dynamics.
In this joint project, TÜV Rheinland and PJ Motion play a key role in ensuring that Nevomo’s pioneering technology MagRail Booster complies with the state-of-the-art CENELEC norms for railway applications and CSM railway directive and that the MagRail Booster meets the industry’s safety standards.
“PJ Motion is joining the project to use its extensive expertise to ensure that the design of the MagRail Booster meets the stringent requirements of the rail industry. From the beginning, PJ Motion ensures that the MagRail Booster fits into the operational and regulatory landscape of European rail transportation. Therefore, we work with a database-supported requirements management system from development through production to delivery. We are proud to be part of to this highly innovative project,‘ said Thomas Hofer, CEO of PJ Motion.
‘The partnership is critical in demonstrating the role that TÜV Rheinland has in innovation and bringing new innovations to market. With our expert team, we are able to thoroughly assess the new MagRail Booster. We look forward to working with the teams at PJ Motion and Nevomo in this project. Cutting-edge technology and materials are key to improving performance of the rail systems and subsystems, and our certification can lead to the market fully adopting this new product with the trusted TÜV Rheinland seal of approval,’ said Lars Walther, Global Field Manager Rail for TÜV Rheinland.
MagRail Booster, part of the MagRail product portfolio, is the world’s first retrofit solution for existing rail cars, featuring an electromagnetic propulsion with a linear motor that enables independent movement without a locomotive. Current tests on the Nevomo track in Nowa Sarzyna confirm its ability to revolutionise rail travel, with the retrofitted GATX wagons running smoothly on conventional railway infrastructure. These innovative wagons can operate autonomously, either in full trains or individually, and can automatically connect or disconnect with other wagons.
‘Our partnership with TÜV Rheinland and PJ Motion marks a next major step in Nevomo’s journey. As we move from research and development to commercialisation, this collaboration will ensure that MagRail Booster is not only an innovative product, but also a benchmark for safety, efficiency and reliability in rail transport. Based on this foundation, we’ll now start the commercialization of MagRail Booster, aiming for a first pilot implementation starting in 2024. said Ben Paczek, CEO and Co-Founder of Nevomo.
In an era of increasing demand for efficient connectivity and a commitment to the protection of the environment, the deployment of breakthrough technologies such as Nevomo’s MagRail is not only important – it is critical. MagRail Booster not only promises a redefined future of rail transport, but also allows it to be upgraded quickly and efficiently, supporting the objectives of the European Green Deal. Once homologated and with the first commercial deployments, the MagRail Booster is ready to revolutionise rail transport, marking a new era of modern, efficient and sustainable rail solutions.
